The new Royal Vista Emergency Response Station will service six communities in the Northwest and house the Calgary Fire Department, Calgary Police Service, Emergency Medical Services, Alberta Health Services and Animal Bylaw Services in the same building. This new facility has unique features including a green roof and an energy sub-metering system. Energy efficient lighting and mechanical systems have allowed it to reach LEED gold certification and its ‘post-disaster’ building design ensures that services will remain functional in the event of a disaster.

The building was initially planned for the fire department alone, but there was intentional flexibility within the design for a multi-service facility to be developed within the same building. During the latter part of the construction schedule, our project scope was extended to encompass a tenant fit-up that allowed the Calgary Police Service and Alberta Health Service tenancy along with the Calgary Fire Department. We completed our base contract for the fire hall scope of work, gained occupancy for the client, and then went on to complete and integrate all the Calgary Police Service and Alberta Health electrical requirements throughout the building. This was successfully accomplished with no disruption to the completed portions of the facility.

This new facility has some unique features including a green roof, energy sub-metering system, energy efficient LED lighting and mechanical systems all of which have allowed it to reach a LEED gold certification.
